Prof. Dr. Thomas Berger

Leiter des Lehrstuhls Ökonomik der Landnutzung (490d)

leitet den Lehrstuhl für Ökonomik der Landnutzung am Hans-Ruthenberg-Institut, Universität Hohenheim. Seine Forschung behandelt Mensch-Umwelt-Interaktionen in den Bereichen Landnutzung, Wasserressourcen und Erneuerbare Energien, zum Beispiel Anpassung an Klimavariabilität, integriertes Bewässerungs­management, Bioenergie und Digitale Landwirtschaft. Der von ihm in 2001 veröffentlichte Artikel zu agentenbasierten Simulationsmodellen ist die am zweit häufigsten zitierte Publikation der Fachzeitschrift Agricultural Economics sowie der meist zitierte Fachartikel im Forschungsfeld 'Agent-Based Models in Agriculture' (Literaturdatenbank Scopus).

Prof. Berger hat langjährige Erfahrung in der Leitung von interdisziplinären Verbundprojekten mit Finanzierung von DFG, BMBF und BMZ.  Er war ebenfalls Ko-Leiter und PI des internationalen Projekts 'Integrating Governance & Modeling' im CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food. Seit jüngstes Forschungsprojekt zusammen mit dem Deutschen Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz beschäftigt sich mit der Verbindung von Simulationsmodellierung und maschinellen Lernverfahren.

Thomas Berger wurde im Rahmen des Gips-Schüle-Programms für Exzellenzförderung (2020) mit 150.000 € ausgezeichnet. Er erhielt das Henry Schapper Stipendium der University of Western Australia in Perth (2005) und den Preis für die beste Dissertation der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Informatik in der Land-, Forst- und Ernährungswirtschaft (2000).
